Ruins of the Faith is the seventh quest in the Season of the Malignant storyline. This walkthrough guide will see you through every part of the Season of the Malignant questline, from quest objectives to boss encounters. As a reminder, you must have previously finished the game to make a Seasonal character. Characters on the Eternal realm will not be able to partake in Seasonal content.

This walkthrough will include story spoilers for Ruins of the Faith, so proceed with caution.

After your last conversation with Cormond, you'll need to head to Zakarum Ruins. The ruins are located in the western part of Rotspill Delta, the easternmost zone in Hewezar. The fastest way to get there is to teleport to the Tree of Whispers Waypoint and head south.

Speak to Cormond

You'll find Cormond in the swamp near the ruins of an old stone wall and a damaged statue. Cormond is still convinced he can cure Varshan; he just needs the right ritual, and he's convinced he'll find it here. After you exhaust his conversation options, Cormond will ask you to follow him. Do so.

Follow Cormond

After walking a short distance, you'll be ambushed by some Malignant. There will likely be an Elite enemy in the group that ambushes you--ours was a Skeleton Captain with the Brutal and Waller aspects-- but this group is pretty small. Take them out, and then use the Malignant Heart your Elite drops to summon another one and take them out, too.

Cormond will run ahead, and you'll have to kill another small group of enemies before you can catch up. There are no Elites this time, so deal with them and follow Cormond into a ruined Courtyard. Speak to Cormond again. He'll search the area briefly before finding a hidden door under a statue.

Make the Sign of the Light at the Statues

Cormond will tell you to make the Sign of the Light in front of the statue. Walk up to it and interact with it to do so.

This will release the first of two latches you'll need to release to get inside. There should be a second statue nearby, so Cormond asks you to find it. To find it, head south out of the courtyard and continue heading south, following the flooded path that leads out of the courtyard. You'll pass a small stone fountain on your life, and then another group of stone ruins, also on your left. The statue you're looking for is there. Once you get close, the green circle representing the area you're supposed to be searching will close, and the statue will be marked on your map. Interact with it to perform the Sign of the Light and open the entrance.

Cormond will meet you inside, so head back to the courtyard to the north you found earlier and enter Karamat's Reach.

Inside Karamat's Reach

Once you're inside Karamat's Reach, follow the stairs down until you find some Vengeful Spirits doing battle with Cormond. Slay them. Once they're dead, Cormond will tell you to search the area to find a way to get the gate in front of you open.

Open the Gate

To open the gate, head south from the area where you fought the Vengeful Spirits. You'll see two rooms behind closed doors: one to your left, and one to your right. Pick one, and then head inside. Inside, you'll find a Gate Winch, as well as a scroll detailing the ritual you and Cormond are looking for. Interact with the Gate Winch, which will summon several more Vengeful Spirits. Take them out.

Then head to the other room, and activate the other Gate Winch, which will open the locked gate and summon more Vengeful Spirits. Defeat them, and then head into the chamber you've unlocked.

Search the Chamber

Inside, you'll find two things: a scroll sitting on the desk in the center of the room with some lore, and a Superior Cage sitting on the floor to the desk's left. Interact with the Superior Cage, but be sure you're at full health first.

Elite Enemy: Angry Spirit

Interacting with the Superior Cage will summon an Angry Spirit. The Angry Spirit has the Shadow Enchanted, Terrifying, and Suppressor aspects. That means you'll have to fight it inside its shield to do any real damage, and you'll also have to be wary of being Terrified and of its shadow attacks.

You can avoid being Terrified by the Angry Spirit by moving out of the pentagrams it spawns beneath you. Otherwise, focus on avoiding its shadow bolts and staying inside its shield so you can deal damage as you avoid its attacks. Once the Angry Spirit has been laid to rest, speak to Cormond.

Speak to Cormond

Speak to Cormond once the Angry Spirit is no more. You may have found a cage capable of trapping Varshan, but it will kill him, not save him. Cormond takes this news--and the realization that all of this is his fault, and none of the Malignant can be saved-- about as well as you'd expect. Speak to him again. He'll suggest you leave, and go to his village, where the two of you can finally end things. This completes Ruins of the Faith and rewards you with experience and gold based on your level. You'll also automatically start the next quest, '''The Cold Hard Truth.'''
